>I first met Chris Hopkins about two years ago and was knocked out with his piano playing and repertoire for such a young man. At that time (1995) I got to play with Chris a number of times and in about three different bands (so you can see how much he was in demand) and always to my delight. This year (1997) during a European tour, Chris organised a week for me in Munich. When he sent me the line up for the band, much to my surprise, Chris was the alto player. The pianist was a guy called Bernd Lhotzky. Chris said: 'Wait till you hear him!' Well, was a knock out. Spectacular! Like Chris, he is a young man with a great repertoire and also is a great admirer of Fats Waller and of course Ralph Sutton. He really is quite brilliant' so it was with great pleasure that I spent a week working with Bernd, Chris and Thomas Jähn (an excellent New Orleans Style drummer) at 'Jazz bei Fritz', a Munich jazz club. The audiences were very attentive and appreciative. This of course helps the players feel more at ease. During that week we recorded this CD, that I hope captures the spirit of our evening gigs. I'm hoping to return to Munich and do it all again as soon as possible.<
